Emotional overeating is something we often struggle with, where feelings like stress, sadness, or boredom lead to eating for comfort instead of hunger. This can create a frustrating cycle of guilt and make losing weight feel incredibly tough. Even with the best intentions to eat healthy and stay active, the emotional triggers can make it seem like an uphill battle. The below script will help you change that perception.
Find a quiet place where you can focus without interruptions. Take a few deep breaths to ground yourself. Assess your conviction that you can’t stop overeating on a scale from 0 to 10, with 0 meaning that you don’t experience that feeling at all and 10 being extremely intense. This will help you track your progress.
Start tapping on the Karate Chop point (side of the hand) and repeat:
- “Even though I have this problem with overeating, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
- “Even though I find it difficult to lose weight, I choose to love and accept myself anyway.”
- “Even though I feel overwhelmed and frustrated with my weight loss journey, I deeply and completely accept myself”
Start tapping:
- Eyebrow Point (EB): This urge to overeat. All this frustration with my weight.
- Side of the Eye (SE): I feel so out of control. It’s hard to resist the cravings.
- Under the Eye (UE): I don’t believe I can lose weight. It’s been so difficult for so long.
- Under the Nose (UN): I feel hopeless about my weight. These cravings are so strong.
- Chin Point (CH): I’m afraid I’ll never lose weight. I don’t trust myself around food.
- Collarbone Point (CB): All this self-doubt. All this emotional eating.
- Under the Arm (UA): I can’t seem to stick to a healthy diet. I feel so discouraged.
- Top of the Head (TH): But what if I actually could make better choices?
- Eyebrow Point (EB): No, that’s not possible for me.
- Side of the Eye (SE): But what if I could work on my issues and overcome the emotional challenges?
- Under the Eye (UE): In fact I am working on my issues just now.
- Under the Nose (UN): What if I could take control of my weight and my life?
- Chin Point (CH): What would it feel like?
- Collarbone Point (CB): I don’t think I can ever do that.
- Under the Arm (UA): But a part of me really wants that.
- Top of the Head (TH): In fact a part of me is already ready for that.
Take a deep breath. After addressing the negative emotions, it’s important to reinforce positive feelings and beliefs.
- Eyebrow Point (EB): I am beginning to feel more in control. I can make healthier choices.
- Side of the Eye (SE): I am worthy of loosing weight and having healthy body. I choose to be kind to myself.
- Under the Eye (UE): I am strong and capable. I can resist unhealthy cravings.
- Under the Nose (UN): I believe in myself and my abilities. I am on the path to a healthier me.
- Chin Point (CH): I am making progress every day. I love and accept myself as I am.
- Collarbone Point (CB): I release the need to overeat. I choose to nourish my body with healthy food.
- Under the Arm (UA): I am patient and compassionate with myself. I am letting go of my past struggles.
- Top of the Head (TH): I am committed to my health and well-being. I am grateful for my body and its abilities.
Take a deep breath in and out. Reevaluate how strong is the feeling that you can’t stop overeating on a scale from 0 to 10. Observe any changes in how you feel. You may need to repeat the process multiple times to see significant results. Practice this script regularly to help shift your mindset and feel more in control. Remember, EFT is a personal journey, you can always modify the statements to better suit your feelings and experiences.
